When our group was running elections in Washington County we had a saying, it doesn’t matter if you win or lose as long as you have fun. It’s just that winning is a whole lot more fun than losing.

There is only one way to win an election in Oregon which is to get more ballots in than your opponent. If you are not spending every minute of your campaign organizing and getting more ballots than your opponent then you are wasting your time. You have to make it too big a victory to steal.

Our team was unbeatable in Tigard and Tualatin and won around 12 of 15 elections in Blue Districts. Julie Parish was targeted every election from her first which they brought in a carpet bagger to lease a Condo since it was a sure win and outspent her 2-1 only to have one of the bigger upsets.

The bigger upset was the Obama election which she was only one of two Blue Districts to win that year since Barak walked on water and swept the state. Even larger were our wins against Light Rail right after the Barak win which still stands as the biggest election wins and the only win over Metro and Barak’s Organizing America. Our system was so unique they had no way of fighting it and still don’t to the point of looking at this they are ripe for the picking.

This idea is hated by campaign managers since it exposes their weakness which is no fault of their own, but it is why we won and those who don’t use it are losing. The last thing managers want to do is actually talk to everyday people. They want to plan and make things happen using the latest technology so they only look at voters as data point rather than living breathing neighbors. They want to use the formula which is confusing activity for accomplishment.

The first thing they are going to want to do is deny they are MAGA or Trump supporters. Most managers are going to deny knowing who Trump is and will welcome Illegal immigrants to Oregon thanks to Portland. When the Dems labeled Julie Parish a Momma Bear attaching her to Palin, her managers told her to run as far away from toxic Palin as she could.

I told her to embrace the term and use it against them saying she supported the military, lower taxes, and better schools. She started laughing at the Momma Bear title and said yeah I get kinda territorial when people attack my kids and your kids.

Within two weeks she was making points and Dims were stopping using the terms since they knew she was rising in the polls. She won that election by 350 votes or something thanks to being called Sarah Palin.

When they call you Trump expecting you to hide under the bed you simply stand up and mention 3 policy issues you like about Trump such as lower gas prices, opening forests for making forestry jobs, and closing the border or pick any number of issues you like. This puts them on the defensive and opens a conversation on your terms leading to getting more ballots than your opponent.

They are going to call you a Nazi anyway so you may as well give them a reason. This gives you an automatic elevator speech as you knock doors. This is the hard part, knocking doors. If you are not knocking doors every day you are not serious about winning. This is the only way you will make sure you have more ballots than your opponent.

Knocking doors is the biggest advantage we had and the advantage has only grown larger. Since Covid the Dims have nearly stopped door knocking and they are so fanatic about not using cars you can use that fanaticism against them. You can cover five times more distance in a car than you can walking which during GOTV is the game changer. Getting those last ballots is the difference between winning and losing.
