The state paying to remodel the Moda center is one of the stupidest ideas evah. You are remodeling an arena for a mediocre sports team nobody in the state cares about which will likely be in another city within five to ten years. Portland is not a sports team and never will be, it is a political city which cares far more about illegals than they do about winning championships.
There is only one national team in Oregon and it is Eugene. There is no national following of the Blazers and barely a Portland interest. There are only twenty thousand who go to the games and not much of a TV network watching if you compare them to teams like the Lakers or Boston, what is keeping an owner from moving to a more sports-oriented town and making more money or sell and make billions.
Anyone who has been to Autzen stadium you will see fans who are crazy about their team. The entire city lives and dies Ducks and the school is only known for its teams rather than anything to do with academics. The team has kids from all over the nation coming to play in front of their maniac crowds and is one of the loudest stadiums in the country while only holding about half what other stadiums hold.
Can the Trailblazers say any of that? Eugene demands wins and expect its teams to bring home championships even though they have not brought the football one yet, they are still knocking on the door. Portland would have a parade if it got out of the first round of the playoffs since nobody cares or demands wins. They have one Championship in forty years and that was more of a choke by Philly than a win by P-Town.
This really comes back to the mismanagement of Oregon’s economic resources. Eugene used to be a mill town as was most of Oregon which made it one of the strongest economies in the country per capita. Building stadiums and arenas for sports teams was a side benefit rather than some economic development pie in the sky project Mo Mo Kotax thinks it is. She has run every go out of the state with over taxation and regulations so what stops her from running out the blazers with her Blazers player’s tax.
She expects players and coaches to come to a team nobody wants to play at and pay extra for the privilege of going to the crummy city. Not only this but your wife and family have to live in a city which has no police protection and homelessness making one of the most beautiful cities in the world look like Mogadishu only, not nearly as safe. Does anyone think there is anything in Portland to keep this owner from looking for greener pastures? The minute he moves it to somewhere like Las Vegas he has doubled his four billion.
Once again Tiny Kotax has poured another $300 million down the Portland rat hole. Like every other works project which fraud and corruption is the model it is likely going to cost over a billion and nobody filling the building other than an annual concert by Pink Martini.
Like they always say, Communists are not very good at math, or anything else and this is another perfect example.
