Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

State Senator David Brock Smith is running against Oregon’s embarrassment Jeff Merkley who is just to the left of Lenin. Having never met or talked to David Brock Smith the first question was why do you go by three names since only women do that and the next generation will likely have four names.

I quickly found out he was from Port Orford, which having lived on the South Coast in Coquille for a few years and Port Orford, being one of my favorite towns it was old home week. He explained his grandfather was a logger in the area during the lumber heyday, and his father started a restaurant in PO which he eventually took over after someone bought it, he lived an interesting youth which is how he became a South Coast leader. He will make a powerful voice in DC from a town at the other end of the country.

This led him to city council and eventually to county council down in Brookings, which is one of the most beautiful places on the coast anywhere. If you enjoy spectacular seascapes with rock outcroppings as far as you can see as well as pelicans, Brookings is a place to sea.

He is a strong advocate of natural resources and the releasing of the federal land in Oregon. He is well aware of the 53% of the land the Feds have locked up and is working with a number of organizations who are working on the freeing of the Western lands. One of those is the American Lands Council which main goal is the releasing this land to the states for sell or homestead rights like the Eastern states.

He mentioned the unfairness the Western states have on both resources and lack of forest management being done by DC rather than the counties where they should be handled. He was very passionate about the mismanagement of the resources, especially on the southern Oregon coast where lands have been released only to be tied up by the Sierra Club or as he calls them, Environmental for Profit Non-Profit organizations.

He talked of kids out of law school being given a list of logging operations to file lawsuits and if he makes a profit from it, he is hired fulltime. The worst part of this agreement is win or lose the taxpayer pays the legal fees so the Sierra Club has a win-win, and the loggers have a lose-lose which he said that law has to be ended.

The more interesting question I axed was is he a Christian which he said yes, he was Saved and Baptized so I followed with how that affects your political life. He said he had never been axed that before and went on a very interesting self-awareness monologue. He spoke of how he helped with some riparian work on Elk River and working with different fishing groups. It was some of the best parts of the conversation since it seemed he had never reflected on it that way and he took a moment to do that and realized there is a spiritual side of politics.

Back to his three names, he laughed as it was a pretty common question but having the name David Smith did not stand out in addition there was a David Smith who the Brookings police knew very well so he added his middle name when he started running for office.

It was a very fun interview and by the end of it we were very good friends who he

appreciated everything we were doing to help Oregon forests. He wasn’t quite on board with Bear Claw Acres but he understood the concept. He is extremely well versed on the mismanagement of our resources, including the Lithium mine in southern Oregon as well as mining in general.

I axed about people calling him a Rino and he said he did not like it but there are certain things you have to do when you are working in a super minority and is looking to flip that this November. He needs helpers, time, and money and not in that order. He is a great guy who is third generation South Coaster which is as Oregonian as you can get. His only one negative is he is a Platypus which I said I may hate Beavers, but I hate Platypuses worse which he got a good laugh. Pick a side even if it is wrong.

After speaking with him for an hour I can say there are very few people I can say align with our goals completely. He is all about forest management rather than forest worship. He understands the pagan worship of the forests having grown up in it down in Port Orford in the forests. He also understands the political war going on and the headwinds our side has gotten over the past few years. Everyone should get solidly behind him and throw another Communist from Oregon out of the Sinate.
